  • The Poughkeepsie Journal is reporting today that City Republicans have filed an appeal in the State Supreme Court's Appellate division after local judge Thomas Dolan ruled that Eleanor Thompson could replace Lee Kyriacou on the November ballot. #
  • The Mid-Hudson News is reporting today that, due to a decrease in Sales Tax receipts, residents of the City of Beacon will face a necessary increase in property taxes. #
  • Chief Joseph has now added an additional post in response to Councilman Gold's response. #
  • Interesting conversation taking place today over at the Beacon Topix web site. Late last evening Beacon's Fire Chief, Tim Joseph responded to a statement on Mayoral Candidate Steve Gold's election web site regarding the City of Beacon's Fire Department. Steve Gold responded, via a third-party, to Chief Joseph's statement a little later on during the day. Each of the posts should be read in order for you to get the proper context. So, read Steve Gold's statement first, then the Chief's initial response, then Steve's follow-up to the Chief's response. Then, of course, ask questions of all involved and form your own opinions. #
  • In their editorial today The Poughkeepsie Journal has gotten behind Fred Antalek as their choice for Mayor of the City of Beacon. While acknowledging that both candidates believe that the City's new Comprehensive Master Plan is an important step forward in Beacon's growth, the Journal indicated that Steve Gold's job at the Dutchess County Board of Elections may interfere with his ability to be a hands-on Mayor in the City of Beacon. Welcome to the Beacon Dispatch


The Beacon Dispatch started as a casual, personal weblog written by former Beacon resident Michael Daecher to document his life and times to the north of NYC.

In July of 2004 four people got together with Mike to move his web-based musings to the printed page.The Beacon Dispatch very quickly became the City of Beacon’s monthly paper of record, providing in-depth coverage of the people and the issues that made Beacon tick.

In March of 2007, after nearly three years and 30 issues, limited resources—both human and mammon—forced the paper into hiatus.The launch of this new website marks what we hope is the rebirth of the Beacon Dispatch.

We’re happy to be back, we hope that you’re happy too.
